Lucara to Hold This Year’s First Exceptional Stone Tender in April

11. 2. 2016

Lucara Diamond Corp. will hold its first exceptional stone tender of 2016 from April 4 to 13 in Gaborone, Botswana. The tender will feature ten diamonds with a combined weight of 1,525 carats, including a 296-carat, type-IIa gem.

The event will not feature any of the three exceptional diamonds recovered in November that included a 1,111-carat, type-IIa stone from the Karowe mine in Botswana, the second largest diamond in history, according to a statement February 8.

"We are very pleased to be able to offer this collection of diamonds this early in the year,” said William Lamb, Lucara’s president and chief executive officer. “The collection of diamonds being presented continues to demonstrate the quality of the production being recovered from the south lobe of the Karowe mine."

Separately, the name of the 1,111-carat gem is scheduled to be announced February 9 following a naming competition open only to citizens of Botswana.
