Eleven hectares crater has been sniffing around by hundreds of gemstone hunters. Some of them use special sieves and some can manage with their hands only. Thanks to them the ground is perfectly rummaged.

They have found thousands of diamonds and other gemstones including Uncle Sam, forty carats diamond, the biggest one found in area of United States. Mine operators claim that visitors find more than 600 different diamonds every year since 1972 when Arkansas owns this park. Totally they already found 31 thousand.

The Diamonds originated about three billion years in Earth´s mantle around 100 - 150 kilometers under the crater. After around 100 million years they were come into a surface by a rising stream of magma. Following explosion created not only the crater but also caused his today extreme popularity.

John Huddlestone was the first who discovered diamonds in 1906. He did not know what are precious stones so he had took them to examine to a local jeweler and shortly after that started a diamond fever. Huddlestone, who were not interested in mining, sold the property to group of investors for only 36 thousand dollars.

However commercial mining was not so successful, investors make crater accessible to the public. Finally, it comes to state´s hands which earns well on admission.
